The LDOK – 24hr Charity Broadcast 2015

LDOK.net is a truly inclusive radio station based at Gorse Hill Studios in Stretford. It provides a platform and opportunities for people to be involved in broadcasting activities with a keen focus on promoting the many talents and skills of the learning disabled community in a truly inclusive environment.

LDOK is believed to be the world’s first 24 hour bespoke radio station with specific emphasis placed on providing broadcasting experiences and opportunities for those who often find themselves overlooked. LDOK is totally self funded and relies solely on donations to cover running costs.

On November 14th & 15th, regular presenter’s Graham Larkin & Greg Beckett will take the lead in raising funds to support LDOK by undertaking a 24 hour charity broadcast. The marathon programme has been organised as a way of helping the little radio station to cover operating costs so it can continue to maintain support for the involvement of those who may otherwise get overlooked.

Station manager Vikki Snowden said “The 24 hour broadcast proved to be really popular last year. It provides a great way of involving presenters in fundraising activities that help to cover the cost of basic things like utilities, licences and general running costs. All the presenter team get involved with sponsorship forms to encourage support for their interests and we are always very grateful for any donations people feel able to make.

Graham & Greg will take listeners through the marathon broadcast featuring 24 hours of great music, guests, a quiz, games and special features with fellow presenters popping in to support the marathon broadcast across the weekend.

Other highlights will include ‘Graham & Greg’s Treasure Chest’ containing lots of donated prizes such as meals in top restaurants, concert tickets, comedy events, the cinema and sporting occasions where listeners will be encouraged to bid for different ‘Lot’s’ every hour in a silent auction.

Greg said “I’m really looking forward to this years challenge, there is always a great atmosphere around the LDOK radio station and everyone is really excited about supporting the marathon challenge which Graham & myself are delighted to be hosting.”

Graham said “This is a great opportunity to bring everyone together while giving us the chance to raise a bob or two for what is a great little project. It’s all about having a lot of fun while raising as much as we can because it’s nice to be able to support something that provides opportunities for people who often get overlooked and aren’t given many chances.”
